Clare and I put these clips together for the launch of Alana Blanchard’s Bikini line for Rip Curl. The collection consists of two ranges – the ‘Alana’s Closet’ and the ‘My Mirage’.
The My Mirage is good for when you’re cutting laps, beach walking and most importantly surfing. This is a bikini that stays on without actually cutting in and giving you love handles and supports you without making your neck hurt (thanks to a criss cross back). I know I put together these clips – but in all honesty I’m just stoked to find a bikini that you can actually get out there and do something in. I look crap in one pieces – and I like to look good even when I exercise – so sue me.
The Alana’s Closet on the other hand are for girls that prefer a sexier cut. And as a strong believer in the old saying ‘less is more’ – I can highly recommend these. Just waiting for the sun to actually come out so I can soak up some rays… and begin tanning my white arse in hope that one day I will look like this…
The Reef. Two weeks in the desert with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, a bunch of surfers and a film crew. The ultimate surfing, camping, filming trip slash classical music jam fest – resulting in an arrangement of twenty classical compositions and original score performed against a backdrop of epic water footage and heartbreaking landscapes of the Western Australian coastline.
There was a car crash. I fell in a fire. Fights over sangria. Truffle oil mashed potato courtesy of Jack Cousteau’s ex (French) chef Fred Poguet and the most moving concert I will ever see in my life. In a woolshed. The ACO led by Richard Tongetti accompanied by Mark Aitkins on the didge and Steve Pigram on the Guitar. The smell of sheeps wool, beers and classical music at Sunset on Gnaraloo Station. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Check out some of the pieces and photos (by Ed Sloane) below. Thanks to Director and mate Mick Sowry for getting me on board – you are a constant source of inspiration and advice for me. And Jonny Frank – you rule.
The concert is touring globally so check out the dates here. And look out for the making of documentary on the ABC in the next couple of weeks.
Clare and I made this film months ago. Starring Billabongs gorgeous Felicity Palmateer, So it Goes was originally intended to be a 5 min piece exploring the bond that surfing creates between a parent and child – specifically fathers and daughters. But, as always the film took on a life of it’s own and ended up touching on the pressures of being a professional surfer. So I guess it does both. Well, hopefully.
The US Open is on – and the crowds are too. It’s a long way from Bells – in more ways that one. Thanks for the photos Kurt.
