> GONE SURFING

As you may have noticed I’ve been pretty absent of late. My blog posts have been few and far between. The main reason for this is that I’m working on a film. A surf documentary to be precise. Clare Plueackhahn, Clare Gorman and I are following three Phillip Island locals, India Payne, Jess Laing and Nikki van Dijk on their journey to become professional surfers. We’re documenting the everyday trials and tribulations of surfing and being a teenager. At the moment we’re shooting in Hawaii. So stay tuned for some wicked snaps and stories.

> 2009 MEMES

Since I got my iPhone in Feb I think my general knowledge has improved. Mainly because when I don’t know the meaning of a word I’ll google it. The other night I googled  entrecôte and learnt about premium cuts of beef. And this morning I had to google Meme. Because I knew, but I didn’t know, that a meme is a postulated unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena. > FIRST LOVE BLOG GUILT

When you haven’t blogged in a while you feel guilty. You also forget what it’s like to blog – how good it feels to get something out – to put pen to paper – or so to speak. Normally it’s because you’re either on Holiday, drowned in work, or like me you’re making a movie in your spare time. I honestly feel like I’ve been cheating on my blog with this movie.

I’ve been working with Clare Plueckhahn (stills photographer) and Claire Gorman (editor & filmer) on ‘First Love‘ – a girls surf movie. We’re following India Payne, Nikki van Dijk and Jess Laing around the Victorian Pro Junior circuit and across to Hawaii for their first wave. Check out our Facebook page here. It’s not the trailer – because we have a lot more work to do – and footage to get – but it’s just a good way to give potential sponsors the vibe of the movie.
